SERVICE PROJECTS
In order to grow as a disciple of Christ we must reach out to those in need around us. The theological virtue of charity allows us to grow in the love of Christ. Scripture teaches that God has a special concern for the poor and vulnerable. The church calls on all of us to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first. Jesus often invited His disciples to love one another. He urged them to show their love through what they did as well as by what they said, which is why our whole school participates in monthly service projects. We believe in giving back to the Jackson community and those in need. A few organizations that we serve throughout the year are:
  • Collection for Birthright of Jackson
  • Good Samaritan Center
  • St. Vincent DePaul Canned Food Drive
  • Stewpot
  • The Manhattan Mall
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Box of Joy - Cross Catholic
STREAM
CURRICULUM
Our teachers empower students to excel academically, creatively, physically, and spiritually through a challenging curriculum based on national and state standards. The outcomes within this curriculum, developed in our diocese through the Notre Dame Ace Collaborative for Academic Excellence, provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, and our teachers exceed those expectations in a variety of innovative and challenging ways that meet the needs of all learners. This results in a curriculum that ensures rigor, a commitment to Catholic education, and a prioritization of skills and standards.

Collaborations with programs like Whole Schools Initiative and STEM ensure students engage in higher order thinking and real-life application of knowledge. Special education services cater to students with exceptional learning needs. Our curriculum includes special area classes in art, music, and technology, and emphasizes Catholic faith through Mass attendance and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Personalized learning using differentiated instruction and hands-on approaches in various labs and classrooms prepare students for success in a changing world and foster a lifelong love of learning.

MUSIC PROGRAM
The Music Program at Saint Richard School is a foundational aspect of our curriculum. Starting in Kindergarten, students learn to play the violin weekly. They begin with cardboard violins to study and understand the instrument, eventually transitioning to real violins during Camp Cardinal under the guidance of Mr. Dillon, our music teacher. Rising first graders can attend these lessons to develop their skills and perform at the end of the Summer. Those unable to attend Camp Cardinal still receive weekly lessons during the school year from Mr. Dillon, including peer-to-peer tutoring opportunities. Additionally, students can join the MS Youth Symphony, which meets at Saint Richard School on Saturdays and offers performances throughout the year. Contact Mr. Dillon for more information.
